Design Concept
“Learning in a circular arrangement” is a renewed method of teaching that can be traced back to medieval Cairo, where students would gather in circles around their teachers. This approach has proven to be an effective means of collaboration and communication, as it allows each individual to become both a teacher and learner. The project represents a symbolic expression of this image by arranging its components in a circular fashion. The resulting iconic visual image unites research and development.
The circular shape of the project fosters a strong connection between the building spaces and the landscape area (The Science Park), which must be easily accessible from most areas of the 75,000 square meter building. The building’s form and spaces were designed to extend the park into the building, creating a smooth transition between the science park landscape and the first-floor terrace. This terrace can host various semi-public outdoor galleries that encircle the entire project. Additionally, the terrace serves various environmental functions such as providing shade and reorienting wind currents.
The entire building is shielded by a screen that reduces direct sun penetration while also providing a pleasant, dynamic pattern.
